Making Reading Fun w/Penny and Luck

What’s life without a little adventure?

School is back in session, and what better way to celebrate than with a new book?

Reading has always been something my kids have struggled with, so I’m constantly looking for ways to make it feel less like a chore and more like something they can actually enjoy. Throughout the year, we make trips to the bookstore, pick out new books at the book fair, and look for stories that match their interests. Sometimes it’s as simple as letting them choose a book that catches their eye and encouraging them to give it a try.

That’s one of the reasons Penny and Luck was such a fun addition to our collection.

We recently welcomed a new puppy into our family, so a story about a fun-loving nine-year-old and her dog immediately caught our attention. It gives us an opportunity to work on my son’s reading skills and comprehension while also reading a story that connects to something happening in our own lives.

I love finding books that can turn reading practice into quality time together. Instead of sitting down and saying, “Okay, it’s time to work on your reading,” we can cuddle up, read about Penny and her adventures, talk about what’s happening in the story, and make connections to our own experiences with our new puppy.

For us, making reading fun is all about finding the right story and giving my kids a reason to want to keep turning the pag

And if there’s a little adventure, a lovable dog, and some family bonding involved along the way? Even better! 🐶📚

Here’s to a new school year, new books, and finding more ways to make learning fun!
