So today we will be talking about race. Just give it a chance no race bashing allowed! I only bring this up because my daughter is mixed she is white and black respectively whatever else me and her father are mixed with who knows but I see a lot of things on my social media that I don’t agree with, I mean if we looked deep enough everyone is mixed with something right? Well my daughter one of the loves of my life is mixed and I am hoping that by the time she gets old enough to understand this fact she won’t feel like an outcast for being such. I love my daughter from her caramel pigment, the red patch at the base of her neck, her sunny disposition(her father) to the many faces she makes because she can’t hide her emotions(me). I want the world to love her as I love her and see her a person not a betrayal of a race or me not loving myself and my race enough. I know what I am asking is a lot but I think it’s just enough. While I wish everyone in the world was tolerant of my husband and I’s love for one another and the product of that. I still see the stairs when you think I’m not looking. When you post about black men and women going outside their race for white men and women I sometimes get offended because I wonder is this what you think of me? Not that I found someone to love me but that I betrayed my race? Do you see my pictures and instantly hate them because it’s a mixed family? I don’t see it that way, especially if you have ever met me, I get told constantly I am the whitest black person you will met because I prefer Country, Punk, Pop, Indie to Hip hop and Rap and I talk proper, for an entire year people believed I was from Boston MA When in actuality I was born and raised in Florida. Plain and simple I am me however you want to classify that and I love my little family. I love that my daughter will have the chance to learn two different backgrounds and learn her place in the middle, and that each side can bring something different to the table for her and hopefully help her be a more rounded person and understand while there may still be some people out there who don’t like her for who she is, there is a million more accepting her or even relating to her on some level. So whether you have a mixed child ,in an interracial relationship, or with someone of the same race I hope you will see us as a family and nothing more because that is what we are, not white not black just people. “Love doesn’t have a color so why should we limit ourselves to 12 count crayola box?”-Self #Whiteandblack #Interracial #loveislove #mixedfamilies 🙂 😛
