Being a single mom can be an overwhelming experience, especially when starting over after a difficult transition. The process of rebuilding your life after a breakup or divorce can be daunting, but with a positive attitude, determination, and a support system, it is possible to achieve success and happiness. And sometimes it’s ok to just admit this shit is hard.
Here are some key points I’ve adapted to help me get through this time and prioritize myself and not just my kids.

- Prioritize Your Mental Health: Starting over can be a stressful and emotional process, and it’s essential to prioritize your mental health. Take time to process your emotions, whether it’s by talking to a trusted friend or therapist, meditating, or practicing self-care. It’s okay to take things slow and take breaks when needed.
- Create a Support System: Having a support system is crucial when starting over as a single mom. Reach out to friends and family who can provide emotional support, offer practical help with childcare, and share resources. Consider joining a support group for single moms, where you can connect with other women who understand your situation.
- Set Realistic Goals: It’s important to set achievable goals when starting over. Take things one step at a time, whether it’s finding a job, securing housing, or getting back into the dating scene. Celebrate small wins and use them as motivation to keep moving forward.
- Build a Strong Financial Foundation: Being a single mom means being financially independent, so it’s important to build a strong financial foundation. Create a budget and stick to it, save money where you can, and consider getting professional financial advice. Look for ways to increase your income, whether it’s through a part-time job or freelancing.
- Embrace the New Beginning: Starting over can be scary, but it can also be a chance to create a new beginning. Embrace the opportunities that come your way and focus on the positives. Take time to rediscover yourself and explore new interests.

Starting over as a single mom can be a challenging experience, but with the right mindset and support system, it is possible to create a successful and fulfilling life. Remember to prioritize your mental health, build a strong support system, set achievable goals, create a solid financial foundation, and embrace the new beginning. But if all else fails and you feel like giving up just know you are not alone and people are cheering you on you’ve never even met before.
