Baking with Love (Valentine’s treats)

Baking with my kids is one of my favorite things to do.

Ok, baking in general is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve never been a person that loved to cook so I bake. Baking is all about measurements and precision and sometimes making a mess. That’s why I love doing it with my kids. It gets them involved and gets their creative juices flowing. Plus once we are done they eat a little of whatever we made and go on with their day versus if I bring home some Publix cookies I guarantee they’ll be gone in two days.

To make things easier when I get the kids involved I mostly start out with a pre-packaged baking item that just needs you to add a few ingredients like a betty crocker cake mix. I grab and measure out the extra ingredients and let them pour and mix. While they are doing all of this, the oven is preheating, music is playing, and we just chitchat about whatever is on their minds.

Honestly, it’s a great way to reconnect and slow down for the few minutes it takes us to get everything together and ready for the oven but it’s our time. So we bake, we laugh, we lick the beaters when we are done, and we admire our handwork before taking a big bite out of it.

If you ever need to take a moment, slow down, and reset with your kiddos find something you both love to do like baking. Set up a few minutes and just have fun.
