It’s ok to take a break (no I’m not just talking to influencers)

Social media can be draining.

Almost two months ago I had major surgery and took a little hiatus from posting on social media, I mean even down to talking in my stories because I was just tired. But also, I was healing, and my health is a top priority for me this year. I have to say… it was nice.

When I started posting on social media as a content creator it was a lot of fun and help my creative mind flow. But every once in a while I start to feel burnout. I wonder does this post work with the story I am telling, should I post this now or in a few days, I haven’t posted in a few days I need to post right now! It’s a vicious cycle. Then there is the idea of monetization….

There is nothing wrong with monetization but if content creating is your main source of income taking a break feels even worse when mentally you need to do so.

But what if you are just on social media to consume content but that content is no longer bringing you joy? Easy! Take a break. It could be from all social media or just a particular app. I once installed Facebook and turned off notifications because the app was not doing anything for my mental health. Once I was ready to come back I did and changed my relationship with the app to fit what worked for me.

I say all of that to say; that it doesn’t seem like social media is going anywhere anytime soon while we can’t control how we consume and product contact is something we can control. Take the break when you need it social media will be here if/when you’re ready to come back.

XOXO,

Nifty
