Your health is important (schedule the appt)

I can’t be the only mom to put off doctor’s appointments.

I can honestly say it’s not that I don’t care about my health. I just find any and everything else to do instead. Sometimes to the detriment of my health and well-being but I find that’s true for a lot of moms. We are constantly on this running marathon of making sure everything is perfect for our children.

I recently had surgery and it took me a long time to get there. I started the process in July of last year but as time passed, I started second-guessing myself. I knew the recovery time and wondered what about my kids? Who would get them to school and pick them up? Who would make their lunches and what about dinner? Was this surgery really necessary or can I learn to live with it and do this on my own?

It took my mom and my friends to convince me to leap and finally I did. For so long I suffered from sometimes crippling acid reflux which I thought was mainly due to my weight gain. So I reached out to a specialist who told me due to my weight I could qualify for weight loss surgery. This could help with my acid reflux and help me lose weight.

My recovery has been slow but in doing this surgery they found the bigger culprit for my acid reflux. I had a hatial hernia on my esophagus. Which is a fancy way of saying my stomach would try to go up to my esophagus when I was having an episode. After a few days, all signs and symptoms of my acid reflux were gone.

I know this was a huge choice to make and for so long I suffered through thinking this is just life and I can do this.

Listen to me moms! Your life is important too, your happiness is important, and so is your health. Your kids need a happy and healthy mom so please take the time, schedule the appt, and make sure you are just as healthy and taken care of like them.

XOXO,

Nifty
